Classroom Happenings:
This past week in Reader's Workshop, students did a lot of great work studying text features of non-fiction texts.  We noticed how things like the table of contents, keywords, the glossary, photo captions (and many more!) help us understand our topics better!

Students have been excited about our non-fiction writing unit in which they've chosen a topic to teach to their audience.  This past week, one of the things we focused on was how to elaborate on our chapters by adding details, examples, and suggestions.

Math Newsletter Topic D went home with students, please let me know if you did not get one!

Reminders:
Information about Rainbow Day was sent home today.  Please take a look at the information and the color your student has been assigned.  (Also, please make sure the form you received has your student's name on it and you don't accidentally have someone else's!  Thank you!)

Reminder that Sunday, December 2 is InsideOut Day!

Our class has been given the opportunity to attend the Sleeping Beauty Show at the Royal Opera House on Thursday, December 6.  Please return permission slips by Tuesday, December 4!  Also note that we are not opening up the opportunity for parent volunteers for the show.  We only have an allotted number of seats in the theater, and although we'd like to take you all(!), we just can't.

If you're looking for the 2AN Schedule, it's now posted on the Blog!  Be sure to also check the actual blog website from time to time (taism4an.blogspot.com) as the Upcoming Dates Section at the top of the blog might come in handy to fill calendars out with dates a bit ahead of time!

Birthday treats!  Let me know if you'd like to bring in birthday treats for the class!  We have 17 students in the class that are always welcoming of treats.  :)  We will typically have birthday treats at 10:15am with our snack time.  So, if you can drop them off in the morning before snack, we will enjoy them with snack.  If not, let me know so I can plan for another arrangement.  (Note:  We do not have a peanut/treenut allergy in our classroom, but we do have a few students that are to avoid nuts and beans.)

Upcoming Events

Omani Tent Day on Thursday, November 29
Reminder that Omani Tent Day was moved to Thursday, November 29.  Please note that students are allowed to wear traditional Omani attire on this day or the colors of the Omani Flag (or their typical PE uniform as we have PE on this date; I will allow students to change if you want to send a change for PE).  We will head out to the field near the Early Childhood wing for our session at 11:00-11:25 on this day to enjoy an Omani Culture Share event.  The students will get to try some traditional foods, take in traditional music, and much more!

After Omani Tent Day, 2AN will head over to the grade two Friendship Feast at 12:00 to start an international lunch.  Excited to enjoy dishes from around the world!  Students will also use this time to reflect on what they are thankful for!

Our writing work is taking off, in the form on informational books!  Students have been excited this past week as they created their table of contents, wrote their introduction pages, and started writing chapters about a topic that they could "teach" someone else about.

Math Newsletters, Topics A-B and C went home this past week.  Please let me know if you are not seeing these come home with your student.

Spelling Practice (next two weeks)

New spelling lists were sent home this week that will run the week of November 4 and the week of November 11.  I sent a paper copy home this round so that you and your child have a hard copy of the words and the list names.  I will continue to do this to ease the process of finding lists on SpellingCity! :)  Now that you have a hard, paper copy of the words, you will easily be able to see your student's list on SpellingCity!  Keep practicing one activity per night.

Students will take their test on this set of words on Thursday, November 15.  (Note:  We did not take a test on the first list of words.  I will communicate future test dates and new lists through the weekly blog!  Hope that helps!)
