Week of March 18

Sunday Schedule:  Week 1, Day 1

Upcoming Events and Special Notes:
This week we kicked off our first of two Informational Writing Units.  I hope you saw the Informational Writing Parent Grid (attached below) come home this week in your student's backpack.  This is information for you regarding the outline of our Expert Topic Unit of Informational Writing (not extra homework, just FYI!).

Today you will see the Information Writing Checklist and Information Writing Sample (English Bulldogs) come home with your student.  Look for these items as they contain valuable information about the type of writing we'll be doing in this unit!

Look for these handouts coming home!
Reader's Workshop next week will have us moving into using the mini-lessons from this week about writing a complete summary of what we read to how we can compare and contrast across two texts to start planning for meaningful research.

As we're wrapping up our Math Module 3, be aware that we will have our End-of-Module 3 Assessment on Tuesday, March 20.

Reminders:
We've uploaded two Science Experiments to our ePortfolios.  Check out the eScience tab to have a look!

Week of March 11

Sunday Schedule:  Week 2, Day 2

Upcoming Events and Special Notes:
This week we'll kick off our first of two Informational Writing Units.  (You may have seen the handout come home in your student's mailbox today, outlining our teaching points for the upcoming unit!  Look for it coming home if you haven't seen it yet!)  This Informational Unit will be an Expert Topic piece where students will research a topic they are familiar with, an "expert" if you will!  Our next Informational Writing Unit will build on this one as we integrate our Social Studies Unit and have students write an informational piece about Oman.  Reader's Workshop this week will continue our work with non-fiction texts as we look to pick out main ideas and supporting details of text to write a summary of what we read.  Math this week has us continuing to practice multi-digit division, expanding into three-digit and four digit dividends, and look ahead to two-digit by two-digit multiplication.  Continue to look for Math Newsletters coming home to help stay up to date on strategies and vocabulary we're using in class!

Reminders:
Take a look at your student's recent updates in their ePortfolios!
